Council of Australian Government (COAG) Skill Council meeting in November 2019 agreed on “an ambitious approach” to enhance Australian vocational education and training.

The meeting was held in Brisbane and coincided with the national training awards.

Ministers discussed a draft VET Reform Roadmap. We’ll feature more about this in VDC News when more details are made public.

Ministers also agreed to ‘fast track’ four pieces of critical work: a review of VET Student Loans scheme, a second on the use of micro-credentials, a third “on quality and reforms to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations to move the system of regulation from its focus on compliance to focus on excellence in training and a fourth on streamlining training packages “to make the current system faster, simpler and better” and “to identify and remove all outdated and unused qualifications to improve the relevance and accessibility of the training system.”

This work is in response to “feedback from stakeholders about where urgent reform is needed.”

We’ll keep an eye out for the outcomes of these pieces of work too!
