2023 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
2023 CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
The VET National Teaching & Learning Conference 2023, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 17–18 August, delivered on its promise as the largest in‑person conference hosted by VDC. Across two energising days, delegates took part in a rich program of professional learning opportunities focused on VET practitioners, alongside a dedicated stream of sessions showcasing VET applied research for the broader VET sector.
For the first time, the Conference was delivered in conjunction with the WorldSkills Australia National Championships. Through a partnership with WorldSkills Australia, VDC conference delegates gained access to international WorldSkills guests and participated in specially curated guided tours of the Championships, held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The National Championships provided a dynamic backdrop to the Conference, showcasing Australia’s top trainees and apprentices as they demonstrated technical excellence across more than 50 skill competitions. Delegates also had the opportunity to explore interactive Try’aSkill booths, where they could experience first‑hand a wide range of trades and skills on display.
The 2023 Conference theme, ‘From Competence to Excellence’, focused on deepening understanding of what excellence looks like in practice and how educators can support learners to take the next step beyond competence. The program encouraged educators to reflect on their own practice while empowering them to inspire learners on their journey towards excellence.
The 2023 VET National Teaching & Learning Conference offered a valuable opportunity to learn, reflect and connect. Delegates heard from high‑profile keynote speakers, engaged in presentations and panel discussions, and participated in interactive workshops, research sessions, or the National Championships of their choice—all while networking with colleagues from across Australia.
PRESENTATIONS, WORKSHOPS AND TOURS
Beyond an engaging program of keynote presentations, the Conference placed strong emphasis on its Professional Learning Workshops. Supported by thought‑provoking panel discussions and practical case studies, these sessions reinforced the central purpose of the event: equipping teachers and trainers across public, private and community providers with the capability to strengthen practice and positively influence education and employment outcomes for VET learners.
