VALE Clive Driscoll…
VDC Director Clive Driscoll passed away on Sunday 16 June. His memorial service was held at the Melbourne Cricket Club members dining room on Monday 24 June.
Clive was an outstanding contributor and dedicated supporter to the VDC over many years, joining the VDC as an independent director of the audit committee in 2009 and becoming a board director in 2019. His expertise, wisdom, manner and personality will be sorely missed.

There are two reports that are worth a look at on this issue. The first is by Dina Bowman and Ursula Harrison and looks at the insights gained through the Brotherhood of St Lawrence’s ‘Insights from the Life Chances Study’ running from 1990 to 2024. It followed 167 infants born in two inner-Melbourne suburbs who were recruited through local Maternal and Child Health Services. It focused on 4 life phases: the early years, the school years, transitions from school and work and family life.

light of the current policy agenda and the 2024/25 Federal budget. It featured presentations by NCVER’s CEO, Simon Walker along with comments from Craig Robertson and Mary Faraone, the CEO of Holmsglen TAFE in Victoria.

In the recent past we have highlighted the federal and Victorian budgets as well as the skills plan for Queensland. Now it is South Australia’s turn. Their budget was handed down on 6 June last. The skills budget summary points out that State and Commonwealth Governments’ will make a total investment of $2.3 billion over five years in skills and training under the National Skills Agreement to provide for the jobs of the future.

Entitled Good Jobs, Great Training, it aims to set “the direction for the state’s training system to support the state’s growing and changing workforce over the next 5 years” in its 24 pages. They also published a 12 page summary paper.
