Education agents play an important role within Australia’s international education sector, and especially in ELICOS.

In 2018, they were involved in around 75 per cent of all overseas student enrolments.

A overview report released by the Commonwealth Department of Education in late 2019 shows that, in 2018, “there were 6,878 active agencies and 19,413 agents involved in enrolments for overseas students at Australian education providers.”

Data shows that agents are most active in students sourced from Brazil, Nepal, Columbia and Korea.

Agent numbers have increased in the last five years and a number of smaller to medium sized agencies has also grown. But it is still the larger agencies that dominate the market.
