It’s with very great sadness that we heard of Peter Noonan’s recent passing. Peter was the Chair of the VET Development Centre from 2008 to 2011 (formerly known as the TAFE Development Centre).
Amongst many career highlights was his membership of the Bradley Review into Tertiary Education and as Chair of the review of the Australian Qualifications Framework. He had extensive international experience as well in Asia, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent as well as the US and UK. His most recent research work was focused on tertiary education funding and the development of a more coherent tertiary education system in Australia across the higher education and VET sectors.
Peter’s appointment as General Manager of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA), established in 1992, was also one of his more notable executive appointments that led a national focus on VET.
Peter finished his career as an Emeritus Professor at Melbourne’s Victoria University in recognition of his substantial and lifetime contribution to vocational education and training in Australia. He was also an Honorary Senior Fellow in the Graduate School of Education at The University of Melbourne and at that university’s LH Martin Institute.
We express our sincere condolences to Peter’s family and colleagues.
